Everton FC secures French defender Lucas Digne from Barcelona in a €20.2 million deal with add-ons. Digne signs a five-year contract, bringing experience from PSG and Barcelona to the Premier League.

Everton FC has finalized the acquisition of French left-back Lucas Digne from FC Barcelona. The 25-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League side, marking a key addition to their squad.

The transfer involves a fee of €20.2 million, with an additional €1.5 million in performance-based variables. Digne's agreement will see him remain at Goodison Park through June 2023, bolstering Everton's defensive options.

Digne began his professional journey at Paris Saint-Germain, where he clinched two Ligue 1 titles. He then moved to Barcelona in 2016, making over 40 appearances and helping the team secure the LaLiga championship, Supercopa de España, and two Copa del Rey trophies during his tenure.

On the international front, Digne has earned 21 caps for the French national team. However, he was not included in the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia, despite his regular involvement with Les Bleus.

Following the signing, Digne expressed his enthusiasm about joining Everton. He stated his eagerness to demonstrate his abilities in what he considers the world's best league, emphasizing his excitement rather than apprehension for this new chapter.

Everton's manager, Marco Silva, praised Digne's attitude, noting that the player showed a strong desire to join the club from the initial contact. Silva highlighted this commitment as a positive sign for the team's future.

This move follows Everton's earlier signing of Richarlison from Watford FC during the same transfer window. The club continues to strengthen its roster as it prepares for the upcoming Premier League season.
