Team profile
FC Dallas
Founded in 1996 as the Dallas Burn, FC Dallas is a cornerstone of Major League Soccer's history and a model for player development in North America. The club was a charter member of MLS, playing its inaugural season at the Cotton Bowl before relocating to the specialized soccer venue now known as Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, in 2005. This move to the northern suburbs of Dallas solidified its home base and provided a dedicated facility for its growing academy. The club's identity is deeply rooted in its prolific youth development system, widely regarded as one of the best in the United States. This philosophy has produced a remarkable pipeline of talent, with homegrown players like FC Dallas legend and current U.S. Men's National Team captain Weston McKennie, as well as Ricardo Pepi, Reggie Cannon, and Jesús Ferreira, who have gone on to star in top European leagues and for the national team. This commitment to nurturing talent defines the club's playing style, which traditionally emphasizes technical skill, attacking flair, and a proactive approach. On the field, FC Dallas has achieved significant success, winning the U.S. Open Cup in 1997 and 2016. The club has also been a consistent contender in the MLS Cup Playoffs, reaching the final in 2010. Legendary figures include the iconic Colombian striker Carlos Ruiz, whose prolific scoring led the team to its first major trophy, and fan-favorite midfielder David Ferreira, the 2010 MLS MVP. The club's passionate supporter groups, notably the "Dallas Beer Guardians" and "El Matador," create a vibrant atmosphere at Toyota Stadium. A defining rivalry exists with fellow Texas club Houston Dynamo, known as the "Texas Derby," a fierce contest for state supremacy. Currently, FC Dallas continues to compete in the Western Conference of MLS, consistently challenging for playoff spots while staying true to its foundational philosophy of developing the next generation of American soccer stars. An interesting fact is that the club's original name, the Dallas Burn, was changed in 2005 to better connect with the global football community and reflect its ambitions.
