Founded in 2000 as a direct successor to the Newcastle Breakers, the Newcastle Jets Football Club emerged as a cornerstone of the newly formed A-League, representing the passionate football heartland of the Hunter region in New South Wales. A fierce rivalry exists with the Western Sydney Wanderers, often dubbed the "Battle of the West," fueled by geographical proximity and competitive matches. Currently, the Jets compete in the A-League Men, consistently striving to recapture past glories and establish themselves as a finals contender. An interesting fact is that the club scored the very first goal in A-League history, netted by Ante Milicic in the 2005 inaugural match.
