Former Avangard coach Dmitry Ryabykin says the team is psychologically at its lowest point before Game 7 against Lokomotiv. He stresses psychology over physicality and urges a fresh start.

The Omsk-based club Avangard finds itself in a dire psychological state ahead of the decisive seventh game of their playoff semifinal series against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, according to former Avangard coach Dmitry Ryabykin. The series is currently tied at 3-3, with the winner advancing to the championship final.

Ryabykin, who coached Avangard previously, shared his insights on what the team needs to do to secure victory in Game 7. "This is the seventh match, the decisive factor is not physical condition, but psychology. And Omsk is now psychologically at the very bottom," he stated. He emphasized that the team's character and the coaching staff's ability to motivate will be crucial.

The former coach urged the players to leave behind the painful memories of their recent losses. "Forget this nightmare," he said. "Nothing is lost yet. One win still separates Omsk from the final. If Avangard starts in Yaroslavl with a clean slate, with the score at 0-0 in a series to one victory, which they have dreamed of all season, then the chances of the teams will be at least equal."

When asked about the favorite for Game 7, Ryabykin did not hesitate. "Lokomotiv plays at home, and moreover, they are riding the wave of such a unique victory. It is clear that they are the favorite," he explained. Lokomotiv's home-ice advantage and momentum from their comeback in Game 6 make them the team to beat.

Ryabykin's comments highlight the mental challenge facing Avangard. The players must now show resilience and trust in their abilities, despite the heavy pressure. The coaching staff has a difficult task of lifting the team's spirits and preparing them for a do-or-die battle.

As the puck drops for Game 7, all eyes will be on whether Avangard can overcome their psychological struggles and seize the opportunity to reach the final. The team has the talent, but the mind game will be the ultimate test.
