Panserraikos Football Club, founded in 1964 through the merger of the city's two historic clubs, Iraklis Serres and Apollon Serres, is the undisputed footballing heart of Serres in Central Macedonia, Greece. The club's name, meaning "All of Serres," perfectly encapsulates its mission to unite the city under one banner. This unification created a powerhouse that would soon make its mark on the national stage. The team plays its home matches at the Serres Municipal Stadium, often called the "Makedonikos," a venue that has witnessed decades of passionate football. Panserraikos's golden era arrived in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After winning the Beta Ethniki (second division) in 1976, they established themselves in the top flight, achieving a historic peak with a 5th-place finish in the 1979-80 Alpha Ethniki season. This success earned them a place in the 1980-81 UEFA Cup, where they faced the mighty AS Saint-Étienne of France, marking their sole foray into European competition. Legendary figures like captain and midfield general Giorgos Firos, who served the club for over a decade, and prolific striker Vasilis Hatzipanagis, a local hero, are etched into its folklore. A fierce and historic rivalry exists with neighboring club Doxa Drama, creating one of the most intense derbies in Northern Greek football.
