Cobreloa

Cobreloa, founded in 1977 in the mining city of Calama, quickly rose from obscurity to become one of Chile’s most formidable clubs. The team’s golden era came in the 1980s, when they won eight Primera División titles and reached the Copa Libertadores finals in 1981 and 1982, nearly conquering South America. Their aggressive, high-pressing style mirrored the grit of the Atacama Desert, and their devoted fan base fills the Estadio Zorros del Desierto, known for its unforgiving heat and altitude. Though recent years have seen struggles, Cobreloa’s legacy as a giant-killer and symbol of northern Chile remains undimmed.
