Caracas Fútbol Club, founded on December 12, 1967, stands as the most decorated and iconic team in Venezuelan football history. The club was born from a merger of two local sides, Deportivo Español and Deportivo Galicia, with the aim of creating a powerful representative for the capital that could challenge for national glory. Based in the sprawling metropolis of Caracas, the team calls the Estadio Olímpico de la Universidad Central de Venezuela its home—a historic 24,000-seat venue nestled in the city's heart. The stadium, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site campus, offers an intimate but electric atmosphere for fans. Caracas FC’s trophy cabinet is unrivaled in Venezuela: they have won a record 12 Primera División titles, most recently in 2020, and two Copa Venezuela titles. Domestically, they have been a dynasty, particularly dominant in the 2000s and 2010s. Their crowning continental achievement came in 2009 when they reached the Copa Libertadores semifinals, the furthest any Venezuelan club has ever gone in the competition. They also have multiple Copa Sudamericana appearances, solidifying their reputation as the country’s standard-bearer on the international stage. Legendary players who have donned the red and maroon include goalkeeper Renny Vega, a hero of that 2009 Libertadores run; striker Daniel Arismendi, the club’s all-time leading scorer; and midfielder Gabriel “Gabi” Urdaneta, a creative force in the 1990s. More recently, players like Robert Hernández and Richard Blanco have carried the torch. The club has also produced talents who moved abroad, such as José Salomón Rondón, who started his career at Caracas.
