Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, universally known as Wolves, is a historic English football institution founded in 1877. The club's origins trace back to St. Luke's Church school in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, and they were among the twelve founding members of the Football League in 1888. Their iconic old gold and black colors, adopted in 1891, have become synonymous with the club's identity. Wolves play their home matches at the 31,750-capacity Molineux Stadium, a ground they have occupied since 1889, making it one of the first purpose-built football stadiums in the UK. Located in the city of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, the club is a pillar of the local community. Their golden era came under the legendary manager Stan Cullis in the 1950s, where they won three First Division titles (1953–54, 1957–58, 1958–59) and two FA Cups (1949, 1960). This success led to them being proclaimed "Champions of the World" after a series of high-profile friendlies against top European sides like Honvéd and Real Madrid, which were instrumental in the formation of the European Cup. The club's identity is built on a passionate, working-class fanbase known for their fervent support, creating an intense atmosphere at Molineux. Their most bitter rivalry is the Black Country derby against West Bromwich Albion, a feud rooted in geographical proximity and historical competition. Another significant rivalry exists with Aston Villa. Wolves have produced and featured numerous legendary players, including Billy Wright, one of England's greatest captains; Steve Bull, the club's all-time top scorer; and more recently, Portuguese stars like Rúben Neves and João Moutinho, who were pivotal in their modern resurgence. Under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, the club achieved promotion back to the Premier League in 2018 and subsequently qualified for the UEFA Europa League, reaching the quarter-finals in 2020.
