Founded in 1902 in the Styrian capital of Graz, Grazer Athletiksport Klub, universally known as Grazer AK or simply GAK, is one of Austria's most storied and resilient football clubs. Established by workers from the local railway workshops, the club's early identity was forged in the industrial heart of the city. For much of its history, GAK lived in the shadow of its cross-city rival, SK Sturm Graz, but it carved out its own legacy through periods of remarkable success and dramatic perseverance. The club's home is the iconic Arnold-Schwarzenegger-Stadion, named after Graz's most famous son. This modern arena, with a capacity of over 16,000, has been the stage for GAK's greatest triumphs. The club's golden era arrived in the early 2000s under the presidency of the ambitious and controversial businessman, Hannes Kartnig. This period saw GAK transform into a major force, culminating in their historic Austrian Bundesliga title in the 2003-04 season.
