Founded in 1906, Sporting Clube de Portugal, universally known as Sporting CP or simply Sporting, is one of the "Big Three" clubs in Portuguese football, alongside Benfica and FC Porto. The club was established in Lisbon by José Alvalade and his grandfather, Alfredo Augusto das Neves Holtreman, who envisioned a club that would represent the city with distinction.
