Airdrie United

Formed in 2002 following the collapse of Airdrieonians, Airdrie United rose from the ashes by acquiring the assets of Clydebank FC and relocating the club to Airdrie. The team quickly established itself in the Scottish leagues, playing its home matches at the 10,000-capacity Excelsior Stadium, known for its sharp, bowl-like design. Airdrie’s early years were defined by back-to-back promotions, and they lifted the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2009, a highlight of their modern history. The club’s passionate fanbase, still bearing the scars of the original Airdrieonians’ demise, fuels intense local rivalries, particularly with nearby Hamilton Academical.
