Novi Pazar
Founded in 1928, FK Novi Pazar is a historic football club from the city of Novi Pazar in the Raška District of Serbia. The club's origins are deeply intertwined with the multicultural fabric of the Sandžak region, serving as a sporting symbol for the local Bosniak community and beyond. Initially established as "FK Sandžak," the club adopted its current name after World War II, reflecting its deep roots in the city itself. The team plays its home matches at the Stadion Novi Pazar, a venue with a capacity of approximately 12,000 spectators. Known for its intense atmosphere, the stadium becomes a fortress on match days, fueled by the club's passionate and loyal fanbase, often referred to as the "Blue-White" faithful. The city of Novi Pazar, with its rich Ottoman heritage and vibrant bazaar, provides a unique and culturally rich backdrop for the club. In terms of achievements, Novi Pazar has spent the majority of its history in the lower tiers of Yugoslav and Serbian football. The club's most significant modern achievement was gaining promotion to the Serbian SuperLiga, the top flight of Serbian football, where it has competed intermittently since the 2010s. While major national trophies have eluded them, their consistent presence in the top division and occasional runs in the Serbian Cup mark their competitive highlights. The club has been a springboard for several notable players who have gone on to international careers. The most famous is undoubtedly Adem Ljajić, the creative midfielder who began his career at Novi Pazar before starring for Fiorentina, Roma, and the Serbian national team. Other alumni include defender Sead Hajrović and striker Nemanja Nikolić. Novi Pazar's playing style is often characterized by technical skill and flair, reflecting the club's identity. The team's identity is fiercely local, and its fan culture is among the most vibrant in Serbia, with supporters creating a formidable atmosphere with coordinated chants and displays. A notable rivalry exists with FK Sloboda Užice, often called the "Sandžak derby," though matches against larger Belgrade clubs also carry significant weight. Currently, FK Novi Pazar competes in the Serbian SuperLiga, striving to establish itself as a stable top-flight entity. An interesting fact is that the club's emblem features the historic Novi Pazar Fortress, directly linking the team to the city's ancient history. The club remains a central pillar of community life in Novi Pazar, embodying the region's sporting passion and cultural pride.
