União La Calera

Founded in 1954 through the merger of two local clubs, Club de Deportes La Calera and Club Atlético Cemento Melón, Unión La Calera is a professional football club based in the industrial city of La Calera, in Chile's Valparaíso Region. The club's identity is deeply intertwined with its working-class roots, earning the nickname "El Cementero" (The Cement Worker) in homage to the city's prominent cement industry. Their home matches are played at the Estadio Lucio Fariña Fernández, a modest but atmospheric venue that embodies the club's resilient spirit. While Unión La Calera has not yet claimed a top-flight Primera División title, the club has a history of punching above its weight. Their most significant achievement to date is winning the Copa Chile in 1984 and again in 2020, the latter securing their historic first-ever qualification for the Copa Libertadores. This 2020 campaign, under coach Gustavo Huerta, is considered a golden era, as the team also finished as league runners-up.
